In the past year, women of foreign origin and some Icelandic ones have met once amonth at Reykjavík City Library in Tryggvagata, to enjoy each other’s company, share their experience and support each other in various ways.

The group is called Söguhringur kvenna –Women’s Story Circle, and it welcomes all women who want to meet other women in a multicultural environment. The women share their stories about all kinds of things – among them the experience of moving from one country to another and learning a new language - but the aim is first and foremost to have a good and relaxed time together.

On November first, the Story Circle will celebrate its one year anniversary. Therefore, the women have made a piece of art together, with guidance from the artists Fitore Berisha and Helga Arnalds. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, former President of Iceland, will unveil this art-piece, at an anniversary celebration at Reykjavík City Library in Tryggvagata 15 on Sunday, November 1st at 2 P.M. Helga Arnalds has also made a video-work about the creation of the art-piece and the women, which will be shown at the celebration. The program also includes music and dance and there will be coffee and refreshments. The Story Circle is cooperation between Reykjavík City Library and the Association of Women of Foreign Origin in Iceland, and it will continue to meet on the first Sunday of each month at the library. Paola Cardenas and Kristín R. Vilhjálmsdóttir will tell more about the story circle at the anniversary celebration, which is open to everyone – both women and men.
