A word from those who organize the open house:

The Open House - A place to make friends

Have you just arrived in Iceland and are looking for nice people? Or you have already been here for a while and still feel like a stranger? Or are you just not keen on spending your Friday nights alone?

Alþjóðahús has the ultimate solution for you: The Open House! We are a multicultural group that steadily grows and diminishes due to people coming and going.

We meet every Friday night at 8 pm in the basement of Alþjóðahús (entrance from side alley) – Of course, the Germans may be on time and the Icelanders a little late, we are very tolerant :)

The official closing time is 10 pm but since people do normally not feel attracted to their bed that early, we are tolerant in this respect, too.

Usually, we are a group of 10 to 15 people, sometimes more, sometimes – on stormy nights – less.

But what do we actually do there? We call it intercultural meetings, which means geting to know different people from different countries, learning about other cultures, but also sharing experiences we all make in this country that can be so beautiful, but also so cold. Besides all that, our main goal is to have a good time together in various ways. That can be in a serious way by inviting politicians and discussing with them and also in a fun way by having parties for Valentine’s Day, Halloween or any other occasion.

During summer, we try to organize outdoor activities like picnics, barbecues or sports nights in the park. We also try to introduce different cultures to each other by having Potluck Dinners and other kinds of cultural nights etc.

The entrance to the Open House is always free, so why don’t you just come by next Friday and check it out? We would be happy to see you!
